Grading requirements

The purpose of this program is to provide a tangible tool to motivate the child and it also acts as a clear indicator of the child’s progress.



Level 1            a) Splashing water and getting face wet without goggles.
                             
                         b) Correct safety entry and exits at shallow pool.
               
                         c) Importance eye contact with swimming instructor.
                                           
                         d) Pick up an object from the bottom of the shallow pool.(Assistance)
                               
                         e) Moving freely around the pool or hop like a rabbit in shallow pool
                               
                         f) Submersion of body blowing small object in the water for 2meters
                               
  

Level 2            a) Movement of arms and legs crocodile craw.
                            
                        b) Introduced  alternating legs kicking
                               
                        c) Holding the rail at pool side bob up and down in the water.
                               
                        d) Submerge the mouth 6 times rhythmically blow bubbles at pool side
                               
                        e) Jumping into the pool with head into water for 1 sec. (Assistance)
                               
                         f) Holding a buoyancy aid with balance.(Swim board)
                               
                         g) Crab Walk along the rail of pool wall for 10meters.
                               


Level 3          a) Enter the water safely from the sitting position.(deep pool)
                             
                       b)  Pick up an object from the bottom of the deep pool.                                                                    
                      
                       c) Swim with board alternating legs kicking 3meters
                               
                       d) Demonstrate ability to “hold breath” for 5 sec.(Finger Counting)
                               
                       e) Submerge the head 10 times rhythmically blow bubbles at pool side
                               
                       f) Jumping into the pool with head into water for 5 sec. (Assistance)
                                                               
                       g) Demonstrate ability to starfish float  for 5sec (Assistance)  


      
Level 4           a) Open eyes underwater with and without goggles for 10sec.
                             
                        b) Breaststroke kick with swim board 5meters
                               
                        c) Submerge the face 20 times rhythmically blow bubbles at pool side
                               
                        d) Back Float for at least 5 seconds return to a standing position.                                                
                          
                         e) Mushroom float 10 seconds, Front float and return to a standing position.
                               
                         f) Hold the rail of the pool wall and pencil Float 10sec                                                


  
Level 5           a) Push off from poolside & glide than regain a standing position.
                             
                        b) Jumping into the pool and perform starfish float for 5 sec.
                               
                        c) Ability to do a proper breaststroke kick with board (25 meters)
                               
                        d) Back Float with alternating legs kicking for at least 3meters

                        e) Swim breaststroke for 5meters (without swim board)
                               
                         f) Pick up an object from the bottom of the pool with both hands.
                                                               
                         g) Demonstrate ability to sitting dive and glide

                                               

Level 6           a) Demonstrate ability to “drown-proof” for 30sec.
                             
                        b) Back Float with alternating legs kicking for 5meters with hand sculling
                               
                        c) Swim with board co-ordination of breathing & legs kicking 25 meters
                               
                        d) Ability to do a proper breaststroke kick with swim board 100 meters                                      
                       
                        e) Swim 15 meters breaststroke without float
                               
                        f) Demonstrate ability to swim under water for 1 to 2 meters
                                                               
                        g) Demonstrate ability to kneeling dive and glide
                                               
                       Note* Students at Level 6 will practice SwimSafer level 1 


Level 7           a) Compact jump entry and tread water for 30sec.                                                                         
                       
                       b) Demonstrate ability to “drown-proof” for 1 min.
                               
                       c) Open eyes underwater without goggles swim for 5 meters
                               
                       d) Swim 25 meters breaststroke without float.
                               
                        e) Demonstrate ability to back float for 1 min.
                               
                        f) Demonstrate ability to surface dive head first (Assistance)

                        Note* Students at Level 7 will practice SwimSafer level 2 
                               


Level 8            a) Plunge dive entry and glide. (Assistance)
                              
                         b) Tuck jump entry and tread water for 1 min 30sec
                               
                         c) Swim with board co-ordination of breathing & legs kicking 50 meters
                               
                         d) Back Float with alternating legs kicking for 10 meters with hand sculling
                               
                         e) Ability to do a proper breaststroke kick with swim board 150 meters
                               
                          f) Swim 50 meters breaststroke without float
                               
                         g) Demonstrate ability to surface dive leg first (Assistance)

                         Note* Students at Level 8 will practice SwimSafer level 3 
                               


Level 9             a) Demonstrate ability to “drown-proof” for 1 min.
                             
                          b) Straddle jump entry and tread water for 2 min
                               
                          c) Swim with board co-ordination of breathing & legs kicking 200 meters
                               
                          d) Ability to do a proper breaststroke kick with swim board 300 meters                                     
                          
                          e) Swim 100 meters breaststroke without float.
                               
                          f) Demonstrate ability to swim under water for 1 to 2 meters
                                                               
                          g) Demonstrate ability to plunge dive and glide

                          Note* Students at Level 9 will practice SwimSafer level 4


Level 10           a) Demonstrate ability to “drown-proof” for 1 min. (with pyjamas)
                             
                          b) Straddle jump entry and tread water for 2 min (with pyjamas)
                               
                          c) Swim with board co-ordination of breathing & legs kicking 100 meters
                               
                          d) Ability to do a proper breaststroke kick with swim board 200 meters                                      
                         
                          e) Swim 50 meters breaststroke with pyjamas
                               
                           f) Demonstrate ability to undress pyjamas in the water.
                               
                           g) Demonstrate ability to make a float with pyjamas by jump in the water.

                           Note* Students at Level 9 will practice SwimSafer level 5
